Hill: “The Long Defeat and the Long Loneliness”

I highly recommend this 2016 article from Spiritual Friendship: “The Long Defeat and the Long Loneliness.”

Wesley Hill reflects on the difficulty of daily submitting oneself to the vocation of celibacy. But that difficulty is tempered by the hope we have of eternal reward with God in heaven. In the meantime, we who are celibate cultivate meaningful relationships and, as Wesley concludes,

The long defeat, and the long loneliness, are lived in good company, with other guests who are bound for the same Wedding Supper that’s to come.
